'The
National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) has steered the fashion
industry to new heights,' said Minister of Handlooms and Textiles
government of Tamilnadu, B V Ramanaa at the silver jubilee celebrations
of NIFT in Chennai on Wednesday.

'It is extremely important for the handloom sector to keep pace with globalisation as it is ever changing.' added the Minister.
As a part of the celebration, NIFT Chennai organised a technical seminar on 'Recent Advances in Apparel Manufacturing Practices'. The seminar was attended by several industry members, academicians and students. Professionals from the industry and professors from NIFT presented papers focusing on the advances in the technological development in apparel sector.
NIFT
is one of the premier institutes of design, management and technology,
developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion
business in the emerging global scenario.
NIFT
has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament in 2006,
empowering the institute to award degrees and other academic
distinctions. The Minister also encouraged NIFT to take up more projects
in the handlooms sector.
