Kani gets bail

The Delhi High Court today granted bail to DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, one of the accused in the multicrore 2G spectrum scam.
.
Kani and five others accused, had approached the court after the Supreme Court granted bail to five corporate executives on 23 November.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had observed that just because the apex court had given bail to five accused didn't mean that there should be walk over for the other accused.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) put forward its arguments in the court on Monday. It had already conceded bail to Kanimozhi and Cineyug founder Karim Morani in the trial court.

The five others seeking bail are Karim Morani, Kalaignar TV's MD Sharath Kumar, Kusegaon directors Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal and former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura.

In her last statement before the court when she was sent to judicial custody in the 2G scam on May 20, Kanimozhi said that she is not a soft target and since then her focus has been getting bail.

Her father, the DMK Chief M Karunanidhi, has already made two trips to Delhi to meet her. In the second trip, just ahead of Diwali, he met his ally Sonia Gandhi for the first time since Kanimozhi's arrest. The meeting between the two leaders resulted in speculation that it was his last effort to get bail for his daughter.
